In a place somewhat distanced from the small creek its name has roots in,  sits a city whose name is steeped with the history of a late 1800s gunfight over land and the railroad, Western turmoil comparable to the O.K. Corral,  The place is Dinuba, a small Fresno County town, named by James Patterson, one of the “Mussel Slough Five” convicted in the wake; the “Mussel Slough Five” were a group of settlers determined to prevent the railroad’s eviction efforts. Anti-railroad sentiment was at a pinnacle and the five men were widely regarded as heroes. The history of the name, is a reference made to the Danubian people, who warred with the Romans and Greeks, and were known for their tenacious and dogmatic war efforts; Patterson imagined a similar stance against the railroad.

Currently under construction, the Ridge Creek Golf Club will offer expansive residential development overlooking a golf course designed by world renown designer, John Fought. Custom built homes are scattered along the outskirts of the small town, taking advantage of the expansive land available. Within the city, ranch homes and newer subdivisions offer lovely backyards and large pools.

Locals enjoy the collection of diverse restaurants; locals enjoy the L. Street landmark, Dinuba Restaurant. With a number of menu choices, the restaurant’s grape leaves and chicken specialty are among favorites.

The Dinuba Unified School District oversees 5.450 students and eight schools: one high school, one alternative high school, one intermediate school, five elementary schools, an adult school and adult independent study program. Dinuba Unified School District boasts several awards; the State of California Department of Education designated four of the eight school sites with the title of California Distinguished School. Dinuba High School has been serving the students of Dinuba for over one hundred years.

The city gathers weekly to celebrate Summer Fun in the Park in the city’s Entertainment Plaza downtown. . Outdoor Market Expos showcase local goods while car shows and cruises ensure that the younger residents are entertained. Music of all types draws residents out to enjoy the warm weather. Months earlier, families got together to celebrate Easter with face painting, egg hunts and a carnival at the Spring Fling Halloween marks the city’s Fall Harvest Fling. In the crisp, cool autumn air, hundreds of costumed children gather to attend the carnival and participate in the costume contest. Beautiful decorated floats converge upon downtown at Christmastime. Residents look forward to the event, which is characterized by the lighting of the city’s 100 ft. Christmas tree, with great anticipation every year.
