With summer, comes the excitement of the recently constructed aquatic park at Veterans Memorial Park, a feature that celebrates the warm summers of the city… the park attracts the area’s youngest residents with its water play features; water geysers and water cannon make the summer even more enjoyable. Farmersville residents have begun planning for a 12,000 square foot, 3.5 million dollar community center; plans for the two story building include a library, teen center and meeting area. Residents actively participate in community government; the city uses community interest to solicit participation and action to bring to fruition planning ideas useful to the community.
It’s not uncommon for locals to follow the city’s high school sports teams in the community paper, the small newspaper that covers the area’s tight knit foothill communities. The city’s attention to development has ensured plans for a regional sports park and downtown building façade improvements.
It is through the annual events that Farmersville sense of community is truly demonstrated. For the last fifty years, Farmersville has hosted the only Memorial Day Parade in the county. A mid-September festival called Sizzling September Nights fosters competition among community members by way of a chili cook-off. The Fall Festival in Farmersville is a popular community event that showcases a number of fun booths and local food offerings. At Christmastime, the small community unites as easily around the lighting of the community Christmas tree as they do to help the area’s needy children for the annual “Community Christmas”; a local church opens their doors to allow the children an opportunity to “shop” for friends and family among small donated items that community members volunteer time to wrap. Locals crowd the downtown streets to enjoy hot chocolate and Mexican bread, a temporary consolation until the arrival of the community Santa.
Farmerville High School met or exceeded API standards, while APIs have continued to grow at the elementary schools within the city.
Expansive acreage and new upscale developments remain popular housing choices for residents. The northern side of the city has seen the addition of Sierra Woods West, a showcase of the city’s modern approach to urban planning, using curved streets and other unique features to foster safety within its boundaries.
