Set alongside the Highway 99 corridor, Fresno represents the classic Central Valley town: a unique mixture of urbanism and agriculture. Due to rapid population growth, Fresno’s development over the last ten years has been substantial; downtown revitalization efforts and a major shopping mall remodel effort brought, over the last few years, many of the popular urban stores that bigger metropolitans boast.

Some of the most popular housing areas are clustered around the area’s largest retail areas. Like the beautiful trees on display at the arboretum at California State, Fresno, shade remains one of the hottest commodities in the Fresno real estate market. Shade trees along areas like Fig Garden and the Tower District harbor classic homes, historical, ranch and custom-built homes. Taking full advantage of the warm seasonal weather, you’d be hard pressed to find a local who hasn’t enjoyed a warm Fresno summer night on a shady patio. The Tower District’s easily navigable network of restaurants, and cluster of quaint and quirky bars, has a youthful draw. Popular areas for families include new developments near Woodward Park and the popular shopping center, River Park.

Fresno is a foodie’s paradise, offering an amazingly expansive collection of ethnic restaurants, a benefit of the diverse population: Thai, Japanese, Armenian, Greek, Lebanese, French, Indian, Basque, Hmong, Laotian, Italian, Mexican, Indigenous Mexican food, Chinese, Spanish and more. Fresno is a cultural melting pot; local festivals like Hmong New Year, Cinco De Mayo, Juneteenth, Greek Food Festival and Oktoberfest showcase the area’s diversity.

Established in 1889, the architecturally impressive Fresno High School is the oldest high school in Fresno (holding Cher as esteemed alumni). Fresno Unified School District has worked diligently to add a number of magnet schools within the school system that focus on science, art, drama and cultural studies. Fresno also offers a number of private schools in the area, and is close to some of the state’s best schools, in Clovis.

Equidistant from Los Angles, San Francisco, the coast and the mountains, Fresno’s proximity to some of the area’s hottest vacation spots makes a weekend vacation convenient. Entertainment options are too numerous to name. Locals have the benefit of working and living in an urban area without any of the traffic congestion and rarely have a commute longer than twenty minutes. Weekly farmer’s markets throughout the city advertise the city’s agricultural strengths, while emphasizing the small community atmosphere that remains untouched despite rapid population growth. A temperate client, moderate cost of living and geographic centrality make Fresno one of the best spots in the Central Valley.
