Named for its beloved founder, Dr. Lee Moore, Lemoore has a population of around 25,000. The city’s tiny historical museum is the 19th century Victorian home of Sarah Mooney, a prominent resident whose family donated it to the city following her death.
Recent population growth is attributable at least in some part to the number of people housed on the Naval Base within the limits of the city; tagged as the “largest and newest master jet air station,” the base is home to a number of military families.
Just a quiet country ride from surrounding cities like Hanford, Visalia, and Fresno, Lemoore has the benefit of being centrally located. Particularly because Hanford is only minutes away, Lemoore is proximally located to myriad of retail options available in the neighboring towns.
Lemoore schools have been praised for the relatively low high school drop rate; Lemoore offers a number of private and public schooling options for residents who wish to pursue them.
Well lit basketball and tennis courts at the local Heritage Park make enjoying the warm summer nights a nightly routine. The same park offers a winding bike and walk park, a popular location for locals to get some exercise. On cooler days, it’s not uncommon to see families soaking up the sun, BBQ’ing and picnicking throughout the park. Tuesday nights mean a smattering of the area’s freshest produce at the weekly farmer’s market. Locals gather to buy fresh fruit and vegetables, a perk of living in the fertile valley while making small talk with neighbors and friends. The city manages the Lemoore Municipal Golf Course, a small course popular with locals.
One of the most popular festivals in the area is the Central Valley Pizza Festival. Hosted in downtown Lemoore, the festival’s events are centered around pizza and its appropriate agricultural components; a giant pizza making contest, bands, crafts and a pizza delivery competition are included in the festivities. Part pizza celebration, part magic circus, the unpredictable event is a favorite among families.
After the passing of the Indian Gaming Act in 1939, Lemoore became home to the Tachi Palace and Casino, the work of a local tribe, the Tachi Yokut Indians. Recent renovations have made “The Palace” a popular venue for musicians and events; residents enjoy the convenience of Las Vegas-style gaming. Lemoore offers one of the only downtown skateboard parks in the immediate area, a place where kids throughout the area can come to play.
New areas for housing offer large lots, pools and relatively low housing cost. With a commitment to families and fun, Lemoore is a popular residence for families.
